Formula Fit Power-Plant

Formula Tour 1600: Kent engines must shape up if to keep up with new Fit power-plant. After signing a deal with TOYO tires, Formula Tour 1600 organizers have announced that Honda’s 1500cc Fit-engine will be allowed in the racing next season.

Even though horsepower and torque figures are the same (115 hp and 112 ft-lb of torque) for both engines, incentives to run Honda machinery are great and drivers who will still be using the aging Kent power-plant might have to shape up in order to remain competitive over the season against Fit-powered cars.

Most notably, since all the parts are stock, a simple seal will prevent having to open the engine for (painful) tech inspections and maintenance is said to be necessary only every three years.

On the downside, Honda technology is more expensive to buy ($15,000 vs $12,000), it comes with a 30.5mm restrictor plate and absolutely no modifications are allowed to the motors.

For the time being, both engines will be allowed, but how long will be until the series has to change its name to ‘Formula Tour 1500’?
